Tempered safety glass consists of one glass pane. This provides increased resistance to temperature changes and high bending, impact and shock resistance. In the event of breakage, tempered safety glass disintegrates into small, loosely connected fragments.
Laminated safety glass consists of at least two panes of glass, usually flat glass panes, and an intermediate layer consisting of tear-resistant foil. Depending on the structure, they have throw-through, break-through or bullet-resistant properties that meet the highest security requirements. In the event of breakage, laminated glass disintegrates, but the fragments adhere to the foil.
